HP’s new revolutionary and versatile products, solutions and services are
designed specifically to help the world’s midsize businesses accelerate
growth and reduce operating costs explains Urs Renggli, Director of
HP’s Technology Solutions Group for Small and Midmarket Businesses.
With its new products and solutions, how is
HP meeting the needs of midsize customers
better than its competitors?
Unlike other vendors, HP does not think midsize
companies should have to compromise on
technology. They don’t need as much as
enterprises do, but they still have big computing
needs. They want technology that helps them
accelerate growth, mitigate risk and reduce
costs. However, they have limited staff and
financial resources and need to get fast
returns on their investments. As the leading
IT infrastructure vendor for the more than
500,000 midsize companies worldwide,
we have learned that continuity, security and
efficiency are their key priorities.
How is the new compact HP BladeSystem
c3000 enclosure designed specifically for
midsize businesses?
The new HP BladeSystem c3000 enclosure,
also known as Shorty, is a truly revolutionary
infrastructure built from the ground up for
smaller IT sites, remote locations and branch
offices. It has no special power, cooling or
staffing requirements. It plugs into any 110-
or 220-volt outlet and resists heat up to 100
degrees, enabling customers to run their complete
IT infrastructure without requiring a data center
environment. Shorty holds up to eight server
or storage blades and brings the benefits of
blades to many more midsized IT infrastructures.
In addition, the HP Storage Works All-in-One
SB600c Storage Blade offers shared storage,
NAS or iSCSI SAN, with up to 1TB in a single
blade within the enclosure.
What benefits does the HP Oracle partnership
deliver to midsize businesses that they can’t
get elsewhere?
Together, HP and Oracle offer total solutions
that are easy to own, cost-effective, validated
and sized for midsize businesses—enabling
quick deployments and maximized return-on-
investment. The Oracle Accelerate program
delivers affordably priced bundles of applications
and implementation tools, and an extensive
partner system, so that midsize businesses
can maximize their budgets and achieve
real business value quickly. Using the design
principles of simple, affordable and reliable,
we have developed a set of HP-approved
sample configurations for Oracle Accelerate
applications that are based on server and
storage requirements that are appropriate
for small and midsize companies. These
configurations help customers choose the
right infrastructure platform for their business.
What are the benefits of HP’s solutions for Oracle
E-Business Suite and JD Edwards customers?
Customers can experience solutions that
are easier to own by implementing Oracle
E-Business Suite and JD Edwards EnterpriseOne
on HP. HP-approved configurations for Oracle
applications help customers speed the selection
and deployment process for their business
solutions and are based on joint HP and
Oracle engineering expertise and best practices.
HP infrastructure is modular and easy to expand
and repurpose—in the same way that Oracle
applications enable customers to purchase
only those modules that are needed and add
applications later. With Oracle Business
Accelerators, customers are often up and
running within weeks versus months. With
a joint HP/Oracle solution, midsize customers
can now achieve their business goals faster
and more economically.
